Risk Managers Spent More on Disaster Preparedness
The greatest spending increases for risk managers over the past year are happening in disaster preparedness and catastrophe management, according to a new survey. The Internet-based 2006 Loss Control Spending Survey by Chubb Group of Insurance Companies found 52 percent of risk managers said loss control spending remained the same in the past year.
Fifteen percent of respondents cited the threat of natural disasters as a reason for changing their loss control spending in the past year, and five percent cited terrorism. In 2006, legal/regulatory compliance also was a factor cited by 17 percent of survey respondents as one for changing spending in the past year. And 47 percent said increased spending related to corporate governance.

Study Finds 45 Percent of Businesses Have Invoked BC Plans
Almost half of the companies who have business continuity plans have actually had to put them to use during a real-life crisis, according to a new study. And almost 20 percent still don’t even have BC plans in place.
The international survey by SteelEye Technology and Continuity Central found that 45 percent of organizations they surveyed have needed to invoke their BC plans. Respondents also reported they have less than 48 hours to correct outages before the downtime becomes a potentially fatal issue for their organizations.
