Montreal, QC – On Friday, June 3, 2005, Alistair Donald
MacKenzie was ushered in as the new President of the Canadian Society
for Civil Engineering during the 33rd CSCE Annual Conference in Toronto,
Ontario.
Known throughout the CSCE for his consistently cheerful
disposition and Scottish wit, Alistair MacKenzie is currently a Professor
in the Architectural Science Department of Ryerson University.
A graduate of the University of Aberdeen in Scotland,
Mr. MacKenzie began his career working on hydroelectric power projects
in Scotland, before joining Wimpey International in 1959 as a site
engineer. Prior to being transferred to Canada in 1978 to take the
position of Engineering Division Manager, Mr. MacKenzie also served
as a Design Engineer, Construction Planner and Construction Manager.
In 1992, Alistair moved into the world of academia by
accepting his current position at Ryerson University. Since then,
he has proven to be an inspired student of the history of civil engineering
by presenting several interesting papers on the topic, as well as
acting as Chair of CSCE’s National History Committee for seven years.
The Canadian Society for Civil Engineering is a national,
not-for-profit, learned society that was founded in 1887. It is dedicated
to providing civil engineers with opportunities to enhance their professional
development through continuing education, networking advocacy activities,
publications, and a program of international exchange. With a National
Office located in Montreal, the CSCE is comprised of 23 sections located
across Canada and is a constituent society of the Engineering Institute
of Canada.
