Global Terrorism Centers in Africa Cause Concern

Apart from lawlessness and piracy, al-Qaida activity in two Horn of Africa nations is raising concerns about cyber-security and cyber crime, this article in The Australian reports.

"We increasingly have offshoots to al-Qa'ida operating from Yemen across the Red Sea to the Horn of Africa … al-Qa'ida is developing much more of a base for operations in those parts of the world," the article says.

The talks, to be held in Sydney this week, are part of increased intelligence co-operation between Britain and Australia. A new defense co-operation pact between the UK and Australia is expected to be signed during the summit.

The U.S., U.K. and Australia are already engaged in high-tech research on measures to reduce the threat to computer and communications systems posed by cyber crime and cyber warfare.
