Other Oil Companies Wouldn’t Fare Better

Last week, a judge ruled against President Barack Obama’s six-month freeze on deepwater drilling. The White House plans to appeal the decision. Meanwhile, senior US lawmakers have asked oil companies about their emergency plans, and found out they are no better prepared than BP was for a major oil disaster.

An article hosted by Google News says these companies were asked to prove they are better prepared than BP.

“At a hearing earlier this month, the executives acknowledged that their emergency response plans were in large part similar to BP’s plan for managing a major spill in the Gulf – which events proved catastrophically inadequate,” says the article.

The companies have until July 2 to share their disaster plans with the lawmakers, who also want to know if the companies are better equipped than BP with resources or tools to handle an oil spill.
