Introducing NYS RISE: A New Think Tank for Emergency Education

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced the launch of the New York State Resiliency Institute for Storms & Emergencies (NYS RISE), a new think tank led by universities in the New York area that will contribute to research and education on emergency preparation, and information regarding extreme weather and natural disasters.

Governor Cuomo stated that the program is being launched to, “…better protect New York’s communities in natural disasters”.

NYS RISE will inform the decisions of policymakers, first responders, and aid agencies in the state of New York before, during, and after extreme weather events.

SUNY Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher said, “The NYS RISE initiative will allow New York to get ahead of severe weather in the future and to better protect and rebuild our communities in the wake of such events”.
