Planning Ahead to Make 2015 a Year Free of Crisis

Philadelphia public relations examiner Debbie Goetz writes in an article:

“One of the most important factors of PR for individuals and businesses is crisis management. With a 24/7 news cycle and more social media access than ever before, a crisis is able to spread quickly no matter the time or place, which makes crisis preparation and management more important than ever.”

Here are her six tips for a crisis management plan:

  1. Conduct a SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) analysis. Use the results of it to create an effective crisis management plan.
  2. Identify a company spokesperson.
  3. Put a crisis management team together.
  4. Create a secure IT, Communications and Sharing System. Talk to your IT department or a security company about any vulnerabilities you may have. Keep your social media outlets secure and be careful about what you upload to cloud storage.
  5. Know your communication and customer service policies.
  6. Test your crisis plan. The testing phase is crucial to finding any holes in your plan and improving it.
