New Masters Program in Disaster Management Launched at FIU

Florida International University (FIU) has announced the offering of a new dedicated one-year Master's program in the field of disaster management, the first offered in the state of Florida, according to FIU.

The program is intended to offer a focus on international disaster relief, while also preparing students for involvement within the U.S. at the federal, state, and local levels. “In South Florida we know the importance of having well-trained first responders and emergency managers to handle such situations,” said executive director of the Academy for International Disaster Preparedness, Ruben D. Almaguer. “This program will provide new opportunities for many professionals to expand their skills in this area.”

Offered through the Steven J. Green School for International and Public Affairs, the school will involve the completion of 10 courses, including but not limited to such topics as disaster management, preparedness and planning, response and recovery, and humanitarian assistance and coordination.

With the start of this degree, FIU will join the list of the schools offering graduate work in the fields of Emergency and Disaster Management.
