China, Too, Has Its Internet FearsThe author of an article in a nationalist Chinese newspaper wants the world to know that China, too, is under serious attack from Internet spies. In an article on the New York Times website, Sharon LaFraniere and Jonathan Ansfield cite a piece in Global Times, a Communist Party-backed newspaper as describing a “major security breach” that implanted computer code enabling a foreign intelligence agency to tap into the databases of a Chinese military engineering institute in Luoyang, central China. They say the article called such attacks “ubiquitous” in China, but that the Times could not confirm the attack. Whether or not the breach is based on fact, LaFraniere and Ansfield say the story shows that China is “increasingly alarmed about the threat that the Internet poses to its security and political stability.” To read the article, please click here:
