America's Second Harvest
America's Second Harvest—The Nation's Food Bank Network is the nation's largest charitable hunger-relief organization:

  • A network of more than 200 member food banks and food-rescue organizations.
  • Serving all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico.

In the 1960’s the first food bank was established. The concept of food banking began in Phoenix, Arizona by John van Hengel, a retired businessman, volunteering at a local soup kitchen. Van Hengel decided to set up a warehouse where he could store donated products and distribute them to charities feeding hungry people in Phoenix.

Each year, America's Second Harvest Network provides food assistance to more than 25 million in the United States, including more than 9 million children and nearly 3 million seniors.

Association of Environmental and Engineering Geologists
The Association of Environmental and Engineering Geologists (AEG) contributes to its members' professional success and the public welfare by providing leadership, advocacy, and applied research in environmental and engineering geology. Multihazard Mitigation Council
The Multihazard Mitigation Council (MMC) is a National Institute of Building Sciences Council working to reduce the total costs associated with natural and other related hazards to buildings by fostering and promoting consistent and improved multihazard risk mitigation strategies, guidelines, practices, and related efforts. Total costs are considered to include the direct and indirect cost of deaths and injuries; property damage; business, personal, and governmental/civil disruptions; disaster assistance and emergency services; and redundant or duplicative mitigation measures associated with training, planning, programming, design, construction, operation, main¬tenance, and enforcement.

The Consortium of Universities for Research in Earthquake Engineering

Amateur Radio Disaster Services
Amateur Radio Disaster Services is an official Emergency Station. Since the beginning of radio, Amateur radio operators, "HAM's," have been involved in sending life saving information in and out of disaster areas. During and after Earthquakes, Floods, Hurricanes and Tornadoes, HAM's have been there to assist local, state and federal agencies and relief organizations such as the American Red Cross and Salvation Army. The ARDS website has an open forum for Amateurs and others to publish articles that inform the general public and other amateurs of the changing world of the Amateur Radio Service. www.ares.org

The Association of Specialists in Cleaning and Restoration, Inc. (ASCR) is the leading trade association for cleaning and restoration professionals worldwide, and the foremost authority, trainer and educator in the industry. The Association of Specialists in Cleaning and Restoration, Inc. (ASCR) is a not-for-profit international trade association, tax exempt under provisions of Sec. 501 (c)(6) of the IRS Code. Earthquake Engineering Research Institute
The Earthquake Engineering Research Institute is a national, nonprofit, technical society of engineers, geoscientists, architects, planners, public officials, and social scientists. EERI members include researchers, practicing professionals, educators, government officials, and building code regulators. The Disaster Recovery Information Exchange (DRIE) is a non-profit, mutual benefit association of systems and business professionals engaged in, or having an interest in, the various forms of planning for an emergency or a disruption to normal operations. In the context of emergency management, the word business applies to both the private and public sectors.
