The CERT Coordination Center
The CERT Coordination Center (CERT/CC), arguably the most widely known group within the CERT Program. The CERT Program is part of the Software Engineering Institute (SEI), a federally funded research and development center at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Following the Morris worm incident, which brought 10 percent of internet systems to a halt in November 1988, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) charged the SEI with setting up a center to coordinate communication among experts during security emergencies and to help prevent future incidents. One of its primary objectives is to analyze the state of Internet security and convey that information to the Internet community. www.cert.org

The City of Los Angeles is hosting an International Earthquake Conference in November, 2008, focusing on Policy, Planning, & Preparedness, in partnership with the Earthquakes and Megacities Initiative and in conjunction with the Great Southern California ShakeOut. Earthquake Rally
Nokia Plaza L.A. Live, Downtown Los Angeles, November 14, 4–9 pm, presented by the Art Center College of Design. It’s our future: A major earthquake occurring along the southern San Andreas Fault. The question is not if it will happen—but when. The rally will feature earthquake preparedness information, presentations by state and city government leaders, vendors and live entertainment. National Association for Search and Rescue, Inc.
The National Association for Search and Rescue, Inc., (NASAR) is a not-for-profit membership association dedicated to advancing professional, literary, and scientific knowledge in fields related to search and rescue. NASAR is comprised of thousands of paid and non-paid professionals interested in all aspects of search and rescue - the humanitarian cause of saving lives - throughout the United States and around the world. NEDRIX is a non-profit organization, formed in 1991, that provides continuity and crisis management professionals’ access to industry best practices and an opportunity to meet and share ideas and experiences with peers through conferences, symposiums, and Public/Private Sector services. The Consortium of Universities for Research in Earthquake Engineering

Amateur Radio Disaster Services
Amateur Radio Disaster Services is an official Emergency Station. Since the beginning of radio, Amateur radio operators, "HAM's," have been involved in sending life saving information in and out of disaster areas. During and after Earthquakes, Floods, Hurricanes and Tornadoes, HAM's have been there to assist local, state and federal agencies and relief organizations such as the American Red Cross and Salvation Army. The ARDS website has an open forum for Amateurs and others to publish articles that inform the general public and other amateurs of the changing world of the Amateur Radio Service. www.ares.org
