Businesses Need Better Climate Change Data

A report by lobby group CBI says scientists and government need to make information about the risks of climate change more accessible and easier for businesses to use. The report, entitled Whatever the weather: managing the risks from a changing climate, calls for the government to create a new “public information bank” to clearly show the climate risks faced by key infrastructure. The information bank would also make it easier for businesses to understand the potential effects climate change can have on them.

The report specifies that the current UK Climate Projections should be repackaged so that non-climate specialists can better understand them, and that the government’s upcoming Climate Change Risk Assessment “should feature specific recommendations on how regulated sectors need to adapt to climate change,” says the article.

The report recommends that businesses include climate risks in their wider business risk assessments and include details of their climate exposure in their corporate reports.
