Preparedness Under the Tree

Besides peace on earth and goodwill to all, the US Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) wants the public to think about disaster preparedness as a gift-giving theme this season.

In a press release on the Media Newswire website, Janet M. Odesoo, acting regional administrator for FEMA Region V, said, “Disasters can happen at any time and the holiday season is a great opportunity to take simple steps to make sure that you and your loved ones are prepared. The public is the most important member of our nation’s emergency response team and the more we all do to be prepared, the more successful this team will be.”

Among FEMA’s suggested gift ideas: Disaster kits for the home and office; Enrollment in a CPR or first-aid class; car kits; battery powered lamps; and NOAA weather radios with extra batteries.
